31.08.2009. Dnieper River Faced With Radioactive Contamination Threat.
The Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Office warns of a high risk of radioactive contamination of the Pripyat River. Alexander Gardetsky, prosecutor of the region, informed in a panel session held in Chernobyl that the Pripyat, which drains into the Dnieper, can affect water condition in the major river of Ukraine.

04.06.2009. Fewer Belarusian children go abroad for recuperation.
Over the past 20 years, more than 500,000 Belarusian children have undergone health improvement treatment in 26 countries owing to efforts of charitable organizations. However, many of foreign sponsors have been cutting back cooperation lately. Conditions set forth by the Belarusian authorities are among the primary causes.

25.04.2009.UN agencies mark Chernobyl anniversary with launch of US$ 2.5-million project.
Four United Nations agencies marked on April 24th the 23rd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident by launching a US$ 2.5 million programme designed to meet the priority information needs of affected communities in Belarus, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine.

10.04.2009. Kiev to welcome donors of Chernobyl Shelter construction.
In July, Kiev will host a conference of donor countries, which contribute to financing of works under the Chernobyl nuclear power plant shutdown program.

9.04.2009. Parliament of Ukraine conducted hearings dedicated to consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP.
On April 8, the Supreme Rada of Ukraine conducted regular annual parliamentary hearings. This year, parliamentarians addressed “the present situation and relevant problems of overcoming consequences of the Chernobyl accident”.

06.11.2008.Chernobyl awaits tourists.
During the trip to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Minister of Emergency Situations of Ukraine Vladimir Shandra told journalists that the number of tourists wanting to have a look at the Chernobyl zone was going up. Much could have been done to attract tourists, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations can do much better in this respect, he said.

06.11.2008.Stabilization of Chernobyl Shelter completed.
Stabilization of the containment structure enclosing the wrecked Chernobyl Unit 4 reactor known as Shelter has been completed. Vladimir Kholosha, deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of Ukraine, and head of the state council for acceptance of works under the stabilization project, signed the commissioning act, informs the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

Attention charities: Belarus changes regulations on children’s recuperation in foreign countries
On October 13, the president of Belarus signed decree No. 555, which introduced alterations and amendments to decree No. 98 on children’s recuperation abroad on the basis of foreign gratuitous aid issued on February 18, 2004, the president’s press service informs.
