SDC Chernobyl projects

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within the Swiss ministry of foreign affairs. Together with other federal offices, SDC is responsible for overall coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as humanitarian aid.

The SDC Chernobyl programme in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia aims at relieving the people suffering from the Chernobyl consequences, developing of  Chernobyl contaminated areas as well as increasing the national and international awareness on the problem.

STATEMENT:

"Our primary objectives in Chernobyl are to focus the attention of the national and international communities on the on-going socio-economic and environmental issues, to initiate a new conversation on the basis of people"s needs in the affected zone, and to direct future investments of NGOs, governments, and donors into productive domains that will allow people and communities to take charge of their own future."

Douglas Gardner, Ex UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative, Kiev, Ukraine
