More than 20 years have passed since the disaster at the Chernobyl NPP. Some would say it is a lot. Yet, the pain and problems of people affected by it are still there and will be there for many more years to come. As well as their continuing efforts to overcome the consequences of the disaster and bring the affected territories back to the normal life of peace and prosperity. These efforts are supported by all those who understand that 20 years is not a limitation period and a lot still has to be done for the rehabilitation of territories and people.
Thanks to the activities of all involved parties, the affected regions are step by step moving towards recovery. Steps themselves are different, some are bigger, and some are smaller. Still each of them makes this long road shorter.
In the new section “Affected Regions. Recovery Steps”, opened specially for the 21st anniversary of Chernobyl disaster, the www.chernobyl.info gives its visitors a chance to take a closer look at the everyday life of the affected regions and the steps they make towards recovery. In Chernobyl Interviews 2007 the regions’ residents talk about the way they cope with the Chernobyl consequences in their everyday life. Recommendations present a set of rules they have to follow in order to make their life safer. The subsection They are so different shows that the districts put into one category by the Chernobyl stigma, vary greatly almost in anything else – history, culture, economy, mentality of people – peculiar traits that Chernobyl did not manage to rob them off. Places to visit give an account of famous sights this land of immense beauty is proud of.
Altogether, these materials form a picture of the regions’ everyday life and work for better future – a future, in which the Chernobyl wounds to this land and people will be finally healed.
